Just in time for the holiday retail rush,Amazon.com’s new Bay Area fulfillment warehouse is officially up and running.
The company on Wednesday announced that the first item has shipped from its Tracy, Calif. warehouse — a copy of Jon Taffer’s new book “Raise the Bar” — to a customer in Menlo Park.
The 1-million-square-foot facility has more than 400 full-time employees and is still hiring.
The retailer is trying to woo potential employees with an attractive benefits package and promises of pay “30 percent higher” than most other retail stores.
Amazon recently said it plans to hire more than 70,000 seasonal employees for the holiday season, thousands of which will be located in California.
