Nightclubs may complain about rising booking fees from artists, but it appears they are not hurting as a result. The Nightclub and Bar Media Group, a trade publication, has released its list of the 100 top-grossing nightclubs in the U.S. in 2014. Topping the list are Las Vegas megaclubs XS, Hakkasan and Marquee and the trend continues throughout the list of major urban bottle service venues.
It was a record-breaking year for United States clubs as the top 100 raked in more than $1.36 billion in revenue. A lot of that money goes right back into their product with redesign upgrades, bookings and day-to-day expenses, but the big clubs of America are doing well.
The big money is concentrated in Las Vegas, Miami and New York, unsurprisingly. The top money getter is XS at $103 million to $105 million and then Hakkasan at $100 million to $103 million. XS boasts a DJ roster with the likes of Avicii, Zedd, Diplo, Kaskade and Skrillex and recently spent $10 million to upgrade its club floor. See a video of the upgrade via its YouTube channel below. Hakkasan just shuffled its DJ roster, but kept many of the same names with Calvin Harris, Tiësto, Above & Beyond and Hardwell under its roof.
New York only has one club in the top 10, Lavo NYC, which is out-earning its Vegas parent club, and Miami partners Story and LIV crack the top 10 as well. But it is clear that the big money is in Las Vegas, and that is why artists will flock there for their residencies.
